2016 SEFHA Colt Starting Challenge
Amelia was chosen to be one of the competing trainers for the 2016 - 6th Annual SEFHA Colt Starting Challenge. Amelia did a demo on her gelding Dinero Friday evening, then on Saturday she had to start a 10 year old unbroke broodmare under saddle for the competition. The mare had just weaned a baby 4 days prior to the competition, so you can imagine the attitude she had about getting started under saddle! The two biggest challenges they faced during the total 4 hours of training time (intense, right?!) were the mare allowing Amelia on her right side on the ground, & then once Amelia started riding her, getting a canter was very very difficult, as the mare didn't appreciate leg pressure, & was so out of shape and tired already. When it came time to do our final round, which is a mixture of maneuvers and going through the gaits, stopping & backing, picking up their feet, and doing an obstacle course, Amelia was shocked at how well the mare did & how much effort she gave her. They were able to do all the required maneuvers and obstacles under saddle, except one, which they did from the ground. We are so proud of the progress that was made in such a short period of time! Amelia ended up placing 2nd! See pictures & videos below!!!
